Pittsburgh's Goin to the Su-perbowl...

Over here at the SLS homestead we're Steeler fans.  And in honor of the big game this weekend, here's another one of Hubbers favorite game day sandwiches.  Nothing says game day food like a little Polska Kielbasa.

Steeler Reuben

3 pounds Smoked Sausage or Kielbasa, cut on the diagonal (longways) in 1/2 inch widths
1 jar/can sauerkraut, drained and rinsed
1 large sweet onion, sliced thin
1 pound Swiss cheese
Thousand Island dressing
Soft sandwich rolls, your favorite kind

In a large skillet, heat the sauerkraut and onion over medium-high heat until mixture starts to lightly brown, remove from heat and set aside
In a second skillet, saute the sausage until lightly browned (you may need to do this in a few batches)
Heat a large griddle to medium heat (around 300 degrees)
Assemble individual piles of sandwich filling on the griddle like this

  - add pile of sausage
  - top with 1/2 cup or so of sauerkraut mixture
  - add approximately 2 tablespoons thousand island dressing
  - top with 2 slices Swiss cheese
When Swiss cheese is melted, slide each sandwich filling onto its bun

Sit back and enjoy some stick-to-your-ribs football food!

And in case this regional sandwich isn't your idea of yumminess, here are a few more of our favorite football foods:

Nachos Grande

BBQ Chicken Quesadillas

Tasty Turkey Subs
